Topanga Days is a three day summer festival in the beautiful woodsy place called Topanga. We've been a couple times. This year we had a blast. Here are some photos I took.

Tom, these pictures are wonderful. Will you write more about the festival?

Hey Tom--
I agree with Jackie. These photos are gorgeous. I felt transported. What bands did you see there?

We went on Sunday and got there kinda late so we missed John Densmore's Tribal Jazz which I suspect would have been quite interesting. The two bands we did see, Topanga Mountain Tree O and Hot Buttered Rum were good, driving, bluegrassy types that really provided the perfect backdrop for what we really like to do there: eat, drink beer and lemonade, and walk around checking out all the artisans' wares being sold at the hundreds of booths set up around the fairgrounds.

This is a pretty small area so you're never far from the music. It's always there with you. Basically, the point is to just free your mind and wander around aimlessly, something Cindy and I can handle occasionally.

The festival is in Topanga State Park. Topanga is, like I said, a really woodsy canyon not far from the coast and although it has the reputation for being full of "old hippies" it seems to me to be more full of artists. Silverlake, oddly has the reputation for being the artsy part of L.A. but it has more professionals than artists.

Our friend Patty lives in Topanga. She's owned a house there since the 70s. We LOVE to visit Patty. After the festival a bunch of us went back to her place for burgers and corn.
