OPEN GRAVE
OK, I admit this is creepy, but I feel strangely obligated to creep out others in response to my own creeped-outedness.
This is a photo of my dead – sorry, recently departed friend Al's open grave. His wife sent it to me. At first I thought it was one of those ones where you put the body in standing up but then realized that he was cremated and the grave is where some of his ashes are interred.
As a good friend of Al's, I find it really disturbing to look at this hole in the ground.

This is a sort of unrelated comment, but since we're talking about being weirded-out by the process of burial, here's something that gives me the heebie-jeebies.
I was at the Costco website looking for a nearby store to buy my toilet paper, gallons of water, and Kraft Macaroni and Cheese. The nav bar at the top lists all the main categories of products sold at Costco: Appliances; Auto; Baby; Books, movies & toys; Computers & office; Electronics & pianos; Furniture; Hardware & outdoor; Health & beauty; Home; Jewelry, apparel & accessories; Occasions & floral; Pets; Sports & rec; Urns & caskets; Wine & food.
Huh? Urns & caskets? Yep. There they are. And at damn cheap prices, too. Do you think you have to order in bulk? Now, I've never actually seen the Urn & Casket aisle at my local Costco, but that might just be because I'm too afraid to go looking.
That IS weird.
